Why contamination matters
Carbon-steel contamination can cause staining or corrosion on stainless steel. Use suitable dedicated abrasives and keep them separate from carbon-steel work.
Grit progression
Select a grit sequence for the starting surface and required finish. Check abrasive compatibility, trial the sequence on a sample and follow manufacturer guidance for finishing products.
Tooling tips
Use the abrasive manufacturer's recommended operating conditions and never exceed the marked maximum speed. Select equipment and protection suitable for the task.
